Chapter One

Walking down the hallway of this house was the most normal thing for me. I had been doing it for several years, and it wasn’t even my house. My best friend and I always had sleepovers in her house. So, I had gotten used to walking up and down these halls and stairs and going into the kitchen as if I was home.

I was currently heading down to the kitchen to grab a glass of water. It was Friday, Sam’s parents had left to their jobs, and she was still sleeping. She could honestly sleep all day, not me though. I had been accustomed to waking up at six in the morning, even if I didn’t want to, but I didn’t want to bring those memories up. As I went into the kitchen, I noticed a jacket on the living room’s couch, which was right across from the kitchen. I knew that jacket too well, and I knew he was here.

Axel Moore, Sam’s older brother and currently a college student. He was only one year older and he had been away in uni. But apparently, he was back for summer vacation. The last summer we had until Sam and I headed off to college as well.

Axel was and still is an arrogant jerk. He and I didn’t get along, and we would hardly speak to each other. Although I would always spend my time at his house, I didn’t know one bit about him. Sam never spoke of him except for when he was bothering her, but other than that, she would never reveal any of his secrets or whatever. So he was always a mystery to me. He was also like that at school. He was known as the sexy mysterious boy, and every girl wanted to be friends with Sam to try and see if they could score a one night stand with Axel. There were rumors though, of him fooling around with a different girl every week, but he would never deny it nor confirm it.

I walked into the kitchen and grabbed a bottled water from the fridge. When I closed the fridge’s door, there he was, leaning against the counter and peeling a banana.

“Should have known you were going to be here.” He said, taking a bite off his banana. “Your car isn’t out there though, where is it?” he curiously asked.
